Hi everyone!
Bet all of you forgot it's my birthday today. Anyway not more than 10 people in this planet of billions can remember so u guys are normal. Pardon if i sounded to bitter. hehe.
Anyway I had a very good birthday party yesterday. I made chicken curry and tofu for like 25 peeps. The spanish omelette was made by my flat mate. The curry was wiped out and there were none left for latecomers. The angmohs all thought that tofu was cheese. By the way, there was a flattish cake with fruits and cream for me! I jus woke up not too long ago from my deep slumber and fully regain consciousness after i read ah che's post.
All the ramblings abt architecture and architectural education in general and how cui nus is. I can assure you, not only nus is cui and nonsensical. TU Delft is equally cui, I can tell you. The elaboration I will leave it to another day after the end of my stint here.
The whole of ah che's post reminded me of the Foundation series by asimov. The whole architectural education and architecture felt like the empire in that story. bla bla bla. Realised that such novels were always written at the turning of the tides. Animal farm, 1984 and even science fiction stories like Foundation were in fact deeply rooted to the discontentment of the times. Isn't it scary when huge bureacratic machines can function on their own and nobody is really in control or aware of wat the hell is happening? I meant places like nus and tu delft has already got this rot. Too big and chunky and clueless. In a way, the times are moving rapidly beyond the reaches of architecture and education. After a while, people will think what the hell is architecture? Jus because i want to have nice, post card worthy homes, i engage an architect? We don't even know how to build and soon we won't even know how to draw.
Images are indeed our tools but like the cliched saying, images can be a good servant and an evil master as well. Here in TU Delft, they got this retarded idea that the process and analysis is the thing and the end product isn't. Here is the opposite of nus in the spectrum, u realised that it is fully ridiculous as well. Here they spent hours coloring site maps and this is their so called analysis. U always see dutch books full of analytical diagrams and maps, richly coloured and detailed but you wonder how the fuck they use it in their architecture eventually. They TOO fall under the trap of seductive images. The end result, they got chi chi diagrams, but their architecture is at times juvenile. I got a look to wang ying's work here cos my tutor is the same as hers. (My tutor has the impression that singapore is in china bcos of tt, wtf?!) Anyway she was like praising her work and her previous studio. She has no chi chi diagrams and her drawings as usual hand drawn are of her typical standard. But looking at the architecture, you wonder what she learnt here.
Ah che, I agree with you that the aptitude tests can be quite ridiculous but give these newbies a chance. If i didn't get the chance, i wont be a schoolmate of yours. My drawings are not power and was never power to begin with. Remember i didnt get through AEP test and so i wasnt in AEP like you. Yes it indeed is a matrix, spreadsheet system but i think at least its fair in a way. Not like the entry process to med sch where alumni connections count. It will be too harsh to criticise so early. Some people are jus slow starters like me. Not every soccer player went through the academy system. Zidane was a late starter too. People like debbie will only become a slow starter when they stop being whiners. Whining is useful for release of pent up frustration. But in the end, you decide on your destiny. Don't worry abt not being a fave in sch. We dont need to survive on praise nor will we die because of retarded barbs from freaks like qiaoz. Think edison, bill gates?
Whiners or Winners, its always too early to say. But on your deathbed, u need to have live life in such a way that you look back without regrets and in pride. Wa the post so long, i also dunno wat i m talking abt

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAN'T DRINK!!!
i've been trying to recall what we did on the 22nd of 04. if i'm not wrong, we did nothing! haha now d mentioned it i realised you never told anyone your birthdate and nobody bothered to ask u either! apologies...but i'm sure you know we all love u. right?
and i'm so glad for the previous discussions. bitter or sweet, dishearted or hopeful, angry or happy, right or wrong it doesn't matter. we can all agree or we can all agree to disagree. most importantly we need to let others hear our voices before we can hear our own.
it was mentioned a few times in the recent posts about images and visual communication. i'd like to add that language is also important in that language is the tool to bringing architecture to the public. so, write more write more!
