this week on the internet (9-15 Oct).

(1) if we put our minds to it, we might one day be on the Blooker Prize nomination list too. how cool would that be?

(2) of course, we might need a binding concept for our blog. give ourselves enough time and maybe we'd have The Conceptor for architects too.

(3) meanwhile, i wait in abated breaths for the results of this year's Stirling Prize. after much debate (trust me, there're more, but i'm lazy), leading to suggestions that the non-winners hit--architecture's answer to the Razzies--the Tamworth List instead, i'm just glad it's all coming to an end.

(just in 0433hrs: The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh by EMBT/RMJM won! hurray!)

(4) so apparently there's a revival in the belief that the stairway to heaven lies in the size of the christian church. erm... okaaaay...

(5) you know you're a celebrity architect when even your children come into the picture!

(6) The Chicago Architecture Foundation and The American Architecture Foundation have a network "to advance architecture curriculum aimed at teaching youth about the built environment". at K-12 (sec 4 for us), i was learning how to write Gothic scripts with the manuscript pen...

(7) by the way, if you're still unfamiliar with the drama of The Sydney Opera House, it's about time you got acquainted with it. for those who are, please note that Utzon's finally getting his original ideas actualised after 40 years. wuks might want to note that "when he beat 231 others to win the competition, the one place Utzon hadn't been was Sydney" -- "I worked from photographs of the site". (i'm sure Utzon's not the first to do remote site visits.)

(8) seriously though, remote site visits have never been easier with the advent of google earth, which only recently has become somewhat of a menance to the singapore government. plus, there's also Placeopedia to help you get instant background on your site. but if all that ain't enough to whet your appetite, let me introduce Sketchup for Google Earth; you can now build your sketchup model on google earth, and share it with the world.

(9) then again, one really wonders if site visits are anymore important seeing as how ready-made homes are so much the rage even Martha's on board! before you decide to leave things to the one-time jail bird but full-time esteemed home-maker, you might want to seek a second opinion.

(10) last but not least, i've been busy over the last week running through the skyscrapercity forum for pictures for work. in the course of which, i realised two things: (a) this is a really good forum to get pretty pictures of buildings, and (b) this is a really good forum to get pretty pictures of land transport and all things mrt/lrt -- sio/ yaoks note.
