i'm counting on you guys.

in light of the recent series of inspirational posts, i'd like to just comment on a post--which upon today's review--i realised i hadn't left my two cents. this refers to oahiz's account of kheng soon's vitriolic walking out of a crit.

as an avid net-scourer of all things interesting, i've not come across as many collectives of people bound together by a common desire to reshape and enrich the immediate institutional environment/s they reside. so i'm rather proud to be part of a collective as ours.

notwithstanding the want of knowledge in what the collective efforts of other years were/ are like, i think our particular batch deserves more than we have been credited. we had an idea of an independent aki camp for imparting and sharing skills between peers, and it happened. while it didn't manifest in all its entirety, it nevertheless served its basic purpose. then we had an idea of banding together on IVLE so that we might help the collective stay abreast on the on-goings of the department and give one another an opportunity to share opinions democractically, and it happened too.

circumstantially or not, we took the initiative to maximise not only what little glimmer of a hope we had as a cohort but also the opportunities the system affored us to keep the critics off our back. just because the school had course structures better figured out for the preceding and succeeding cohorts, we weren't necessarily the worst of. what we lack in our design/ technical/ whatever skills, we make up with added perseverance and, imho, an added range of what architecture can be.

why else are so many of us still lingering about in the field?

these facts make me especially agitated whenever i receive news of unreflected criticisms and accusations directed at the entire cohort. one day i'm sure a few of us from the cohort, and at least one of us from this blog, is going to show the damn world a thing or two that would have them bite their tongues.

but if all else fails, pray that i'd succeed in reading law so that we might send scalding threats like sio's petition to all our detractors :)

so keep getting inspired, keep your dreams alive, keep your fiery fighting spirits burning, and keep believing that you'd do something to change the world we live in.

i'm counting on you guys.
