"Going to the Movies: Cinema Development In Singapore".

in relation to oahiz's last post, i'm putting up an article that i'd come across some years ago when i was working on a u*p paper.

Going to the Movies: Cinema Development In Singapore.

highly recommended to anyone who's writing or intending to write a dissertaton, interested in urban planning, soft systems of control, and urban culture in general. or for anyone who has some free time to absorb something interesting.

it provides a really very interesting insight on the satelite planning of towns in singapore, from the angle of cinema locales, etc. the article also provides an extremely scary look at systematic control over the population with the help of heterotropia and imaginary boundaries. i believe the first concept as everyone would know, is from Foucault, whereas the second stems from a visual culture researcher, Anne Friedberg's, very important book Window Shopping: Cinema and Postmodern.

apologies from being absent from the blog for a while. i'm back in melbourne now, and have been taking things a lot easier and generally trying to enjoy life a little more. i'm getting out of the depression quite slowly but steadily, but am no longer attending classes this semester. thanks to everyone who's helped one way or another in my recovery.
