a little birdie told me that some very important architecture educator at RMIT commented that the NUS-RMIT students SHe has come across were often very strong/ good. which is why the school is looking into implementing some MArch programme that would hopefully draw more students from NUS.
surprise, surprise.

eeek! who's this freaakkk!!
we're not just good, we're fabulous...the question is what at..
i love melbourne!
ah... the aesthetics of pragmatism!
haha i always believed that singaporeans are imbued with a keen sense of structural (and sometimes materialist) sense of aesthetics. brought up living in a life of appreciating the truer things in life.
in another way of putting it. it wld be called boring, predictable, conservative, unimaginative, monotonous... and the likes.
NUS students prob thrive on the keen and nickpicking sensitivity to details. somethings so obsessively pursued in our quest for architectural solutions that sometimes it becomes a pain.
shane was so fixated in solving the structural tectonics of his glass building hovering above west melbourne train station. and i was so caught up with the design of every nook and cranny of the public space of my masterplan.
the tutor looked at our schemes and shook her head and asked where is the "wow images" to sell and market our design. of coz that comes from a decidedly urban planning approach. but it also shows the difference in values we have.
pragmatism and persistance to little details is not necessary an evil after all. and of coz it never equates to grades. but u feel good dun you?
