invitation to brainstorm

hmm can u guys out there think of instances in spore, where the idea of home and domesticity is manifested without overt architectural intervention?

eg. families zhng their vans with fridge and deck chairs to go east coast park, unwittingly creating a weekend home outside the confines of architecture; or how pple decorate their work cubicles painstakingly nice to resemble a family setting with family photos, thermo flasks and stuff arranged nicely like a kitchen.

I don't want to be morbid. But the first thing that I could think of besides yr examples is the inside of a coffin.

The coffin is decorated assuming they know wat the dead likes. A bit like what the HDB or condo does. Assuming u like parquet flooring and homogeneous toilet tiles..

i think if u expand the notion of home to include other inhabited spaces that may still have some elements of private and public it may be easier..

think: funeral wakes and getai stages

hmmm i guess when looking for relevant case studies u have to search for routines that are already well-practiced so that from such practices u can observe some meaningful rhythms and patterns rite

funerals r one of the few instances whereby locals are forced to carry out their daily routines outside of their homes and improvise with what they have: spatial orders for the honouring the deceased, entertaining the guests, cooking, the HQ where they store money are all some what established. as for getai, maybe not getai per se.. but hungry ghost festival celebrations or those chinese religious festivals like dunno what god's birthday where by u also have cooking spaces, sacred places, 'living' spaces and such. but maybe thats stretching ur idea of 'domesticity' a bit

hey hey thats a very good and valid eg! in fact such practices are carried out precisely becoz of the limitations of the house and its environs in spore.

another direction i looking at is the aesthetics of the homeless in spore.

keep the ideas coming pls pls! i need more ghost writers...
