figured i'd put up a weekly list of some of the most interesting links i'd come across in the week. here's the first.
(1) apparently rem koolhaas loves to make fashion out of architectural concepts as much as yaoks does.
(2) the british library has began the tide of putting up scans of really old manuscripts on the net. if you don't already know, google and yahoo! are working on doing that too -- in turn being sued, immediately after they're done with the legalese.
(3) be good, listen to your tutors when they talk about line, wall and shade (or something to that effect). one day, your training in louvre-kitsch might pay off in UK.
(4) wouldn't Boss Lady be excited if celebrity-fronted conservation were a reality here, as it is in LA. and there i was thinking such an idea impossible for anything as mundane as reducing oil-consumption (inside joke).
(5) talking about mundanity, most of you wouldn't be excited by esoteric subjects like conservation, architectural history or the dynamics involved in toilet design and use. thank god i have a good support network gathered at Belfast for the World Toilet Summit. esoteric trivial: bet you didn't know that singapore has a Toilet Association.
(6) some years ago, michael graves put up a series of click-and-build designs on Yahoo!. that was a shock, but somehow when IKEA does it with BoKlok, it doesn't seem so absurd.
(7) Bow-Wow is putting up construction photos of their work. i like process pics!
(8) "Dutch Answer to Flooding: Build Houses that Swim". not so absurd, given that singapore's answer to war is to build bomb shelters in every house.
(9) for those interested in design philosophy.
(10) and yaoks, this is what i call blog propaganda material.

yupyup, as mentioned, this will be a weekly thing from now, since i spend so much time prowling the net for interesting reads.
you can subscribe to Building Online FOC, but i've sent you a copy of the article for your convenience. it's not much, just a thought.
also, i went to check out that water studio firm that that article is talking about, and i must say their design is pretty nice! though i must say that apart from including a berth for boats, living on the water doesn't seem to have changed much in terms of spatial/ formal values. bummer that. though constructionally (from what i understood from readings elsewhere) the flotation device is quite something.
Singapore was singled out as a model for the rest of the world when it comes to public toilet excellence. lol they never visit SDE foyer toilet. kithung came to me with a deadpan serious look "u are gg to meet heng chye kiang right? ask him to make that toilet accessible to aki students only..."
i guess aunty chan wldnt like fann wong to lean sexily on a shophouse and say "if u wanna conserve this, pls call, 1900-CON-SERV with the counter jumping on the top right corner of the screen...
eh wonder hor... if singapore kanna damn jialat bomb, does it mean that the whole hdb crumbles leaving only a few shafts of bomb shelters?
we can all live in kelongs instead of such classy solutions. jitao those pple yayapapaya wait kanna THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW scenario, hse can float but waves are 30m tall also suck thumb...
koolhaas will start designing tupperware and babies products soon...
-lOl-
hahaha... no, i suppose the charity show won't on anytime soon XD
btw, Franky Gehry has also taken the helm of designing a series of collectibles at Tiffany's.
sheesh.
like as if any tiffany item weren't already some kind of collectible...
i'm not sure abt the column of bomb-shelters leh. can't remember what i was told last time when i asked the same question. hehehe... someone should enlighten us.
and yeah, the first thought that came to my mind when i saw the houses was also KELONG!
lastly, there's a reason why i only use the handicap toilet at ID.
i think hor.
the structure of the monolithic columns of HDB will be able to stand explosion. so like one whole recently upgraded lift core kanna cui-ded only, and lots of cracks here or there but the building still can tahan for FIBUA and hide and seek.
so the pple stumble out of their bomb shelters rattled and shaken (literally), like putting lecorby in the running wheel and SHAKE the wheel violently. and they climb up to the roof and unfurl their singapore flags truimphantly pointing middle fingers at the sky.
